Greetings all! I'm an amateur woodworker and purchased a used Unisaw that dates to around 1970. The saw has a 2hp, single phase, 115v(24a)/230v(12a) Delta(Baldor) motor, an original low voltage controller, and an original magnetic push button switch. I had an electrician configure the motor and lvc for 115v and install a new plug, receptacle, and 30a single pole breaker. ![]() Tried it and got absolutely nothing. I asked the electrician about it and he told me that it’s probably the motor. Brought the entire saw to motor shop #1(big mistake) and wound up paying $150 for him to take off the motor, take it apart and give it back to me. Told me the motor needed all kinds of work, etc. It looked very good to me so I brought it to the second motor shop and he said it looked fine, put it together, and told me it runs fine. I brought it back home and examined the lvc closely. The wire from the switch to the lvc was bad so I replaced that. All the wiring in the lvc seems be exactly like the schematic and the condition of the unit appears good. I rewired everything as it should be and.nothing. Here is where I have questions. I have a 3 phase service in my building so is this a problem with the single phase motor? From the motor, there is a group of 3 wires and a group of two wires. I’m assuming that the 3 wire group is the hot and the two wire group is the neutral. I’m at a loss and would like to restore the machine with original components. I can take pictures as well. Drama zindagi gulzar hai. Thanks in advance!! Does the pushbutton snap the contactor on and off when ON/OFF are pushed??? IF the saw was previously used on 220V, the transformer powering the LVC must be changed to 110V input, Or it will not engage the 24V coil of the magnetic contactor. The input voltage terminals are plainly marked on the transformer. IF all is working to this point, the starter contact may be burned and not sending power thru to the motor. The Rockwell magnetic single-phase starter has only a single pole contactor. Or the overload block may be tripped and need resetting. You can use a cheap voltage tester connected to T1, T2, to determine if power is at the output terminals. IF you have 110V this far, then the motor will receive power if wired correctly per the low voltage schematic on the motor. If the motor service guy says the motor works on 110V, we will take his word for it. Correct connections must be made throughout. If you can send me a pic of the motor label schematic, we can verify your connections. I have included 3 pages of the Delta LVC manual. Yours may differ some, but not much I suspect. ![]() Let me know how it goes. Dave, Get a multimeter and use Chip's diagrams in combination. You shouldn't (can't?) properly troubleshoot an electrical circuit without one. (A cheap voltage indicator lamp could be used instead, but multimeters are pretty cheap these days.) After making sure the wiring is correct, try 'chasing' the voltage. Start by checking the correct pins on the wall outlet for voltage. Then check for voltage at the the input terminals on the switch. Make sure you have voltage into it. Then check the output terminals on the switch when it is turned on and see if voltage is getting past it. Then check at the motor. You will find where the voltage is not getting to the motor this way. If voltage is getting to the motor and the motor is wired correctly internally, then we are back to pointing to the motor having a problem someone missed. This method is pretty foolproof for finding where the electrical power problem is. Chip's given you good advise.
